Bruce Farquhar

Bruce Farquhar is an internationally recognized expert on non-food consumer product safety. Bruce works as a consultant for a number of governments and inter-governmental organizations around the world. He specializes in market surveillance and international collaboration. Bruce is senior consultant for PROSAFE, the Product Safety Forum of Europe, coordinating Joint Market Surveillance Activities across the European Union. Bruce has provided support to the OECD’s Working Party on Consumer Product Safety and other inter-governmental collaboration. Bruce has also organised a series of successful meetings in Europe for ICPHSO, the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organisation.
Bruce graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a general degree of Bachelor of Science in 1985 and started his professional career as a Trading Standards Officer in the United Kingdom. From 1992 to 1995 he worked as standardisation officer for BEUC, the European Consumers Organisation. Bruce played a key role in overseeing the establishment of ANEC, the European Association for the co-ordination for consumer representation in standardisation where he was secretary-general from 1995 until he immigrated in 2000 to Canada where he works as an independent consultant.
