PROSAFE has coordinated five projects that had as main focus child care articles. It started in 2012 during JA2011, when a preliminary exercise was initiated to develop a priority-list for child care articles. This exercise established a set of products that have to be tested. The absolute majority of MSAs voted the high chairs as being the biggest priority and the product was included in JA2012. This is a significant product group and PROSAFE has made a long term commitment to continue the examination in the future, adding to the list cots, safety barriers and soothers and soother holders.
Child care articles were one of the product activities of the Joint Action 2011 (JA2011). The members focused their work on two product-groups: Wheeled Child Conveyances (WCC) and Baby Bath Tubs (BBT).
12 market surveillance authorities from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the UK participated in this project. Bosnia & Herzegovina, Finland, Malta and Poland also took part, but outside the financial scheme.
The activities started during the first quarter of 2012 and ended in the first quarter of 2014.
JA2012 Child care articles 2 (CCA) focuses on high chairs, following a priority-setting exercise organised by PROSAFE in the first CCA activity under JA2011. The activities started during the first quarter of 2013 and ended in the beginning of 2015.
The following 16 EEA countries participated in the CCA High chairs Activity: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.
All European market surveillance authorities plus all major stakeholders have agreed that safety barriers is an important topic and as result it became one of the product activities during Joint Action 2014 (JA2014)
The Activity, which started in mid- 2015, anticipates a testing of 60 safety barriers. The results are expected in 2017.
During this project were chosen to be tested the soothers and soother holders because they need to comply with the basic safety requirements. The Activity that started in May 2015 anticipates testing an estimated 250 products with the results being presented at the final conference of the Joint Action in 2017.
